Location

The Al Portico Guest House awaits its guests in the Cannaregio district, one of the most populated and visited neighborhoods in Venice, an area full of restaurants and shops that enliven Strada Nuova and its surroundings, where you'll also find the picturesque market of Rio Terà San Leonardo.

The Al Portico Guest House is very close to the San Marcuola stop, from which boats depart for San Marco and the city's main waterway: the Grand Canal.

Near the stop you'll find the Ca’ Vendramin Casino, right by the Sotoportego del Pegolotto alley and our entrance, just a few minutes from the train station and the Piazzale Roma car terminal.

From the rooms at the Al Portico Guest House you can easily get to the gorgeous St. Mark's Square – on foot or by boat – and the Rialto area, known for its historic market and the original architecture of its bridge.

St. Mark's offers a unique view: an outdoor sitting room that includes the fascinating St. Mark's Basilica, the famous - and very high - bell tower, the gothic Doge's Palace and the Clock Tower. A show you really can't miss!

The Mercerie, the main shopping thoroughfare of San Marco, goes from the St. Mark's Square to Rialto, and has all kinds of shops for any budget, where you can buy souvenirs, footwear, clothing and Murano glass objects. The shopping continues on Calle Larga XXII Marzo, with the beautiful window displays of the most prestigious boutiques

If you go from the Al Portico Guest House towards the train station, you will get to the Jewish Ghetto, the oldest ever, with homes that have several floors (rare in Venice), restaurants where you can sample local cuisine and several art galleries.

Nightlife

Venice is a lively city, particularly in the university area, Cà Foscari. Santa Margherita Square has always been a popular meeting point, where you can have a cocktail (the spritz) and get to know people from all over the world. The same goes for Rialto's erbaria and, in the summer, the beautiful bank of the Zattere.
